Basketball Training in Northwest Arkansas
"My son told me he learned more in the one week he was at camp than he ever did in one season of playing basketball. — Parent
About Our Basketball Training
Small Group Basketball Training
RYG Athletics offers small group basketball training in Northwest Arkansas in the fall and spring for basketball players in 4th-9th grade!
Our training sessions are built around our four program pillars: Fun, Challenge, Support, and Connection.
Players will be grouped with athletes of similar age and skill level and participate in games and activities designed to help them get better at what happens most in games!
We use a constraints-led approach on court because we believe it helps athletes get better faster, leads to greater transfer to competition, and it's more fun. We believe the most essential ingredient in basketball training is representative learning design, put simply, it means that what we work on in training has the same variables and information as the athlete will experience in competition.
Our small group training sessions will feature loads of advantage activities, shooting practice, and competitive games.
Some of the core concepts we teach:
- Spacing the floor
- Shot selection
- Handling pressure
- Zero-second decisions
- Playing under control
- Finishing around the rim
- Finding and keeping advantages

Is my child good enough for camp?
Skill and ability levels will vary from camp to camp, but we commit to finding the right level of difficulty and competition for each player within a session.
If your child loves basketball and likes to work hard, they'll love RYG camps!
If they don't love basketball, or they're not motivated to raise their game, then RYG probably isn't the best place for them.
What's the ratio of campers to coaches?
Each camp is led by a director, then players are split up into baskets by grade, gender, and ability level and paired with a basket coach.
The coach-athlete ratio is between 1/12 and 1/16 for each basket.
What's the daily schedule like?
Here's an outline of a typical day at camp:
- Classroom #1
- 9:00-9:45
- Court #1
- 9:45-11:45
- Lunch
- 11:45-12:30
- Classroom #2
- 12:30-1:15
- Court #2
- 1:15-3:30
What does the classroom time consist of?
Each dynamic classroom session includes teaching and film in 3 areas:
- Basketball
- Leadership
- Mindset
What's different about what RYG does on the basketball court?
A lot!
First, RYG Athletics camps use a Constraints-Led Approach to coaching underpinned by the Ecological Dynamics theoretical framework.
In short: We have a WHY behind our WHAT.
Everything we do on court is about developing adaptable skills that actually transfer to the game.
Too many camps, clinics, and practices attempt to isolate skills outside of the context they occur in. This isn't how basketball skills are learned or the game is played.
We put all our players in games or game-like situations, with offense and defense, that help the skills and habits we're teaching emerge in the way they happen in the game.
Why is this camp more expensive than other camps?
Great question!
There are several reasons our camps are more expensive than many other camps...
- We maintain a low coach-athlete ratio (between 1/12 and 1/16)
- We limit the number of athletes at a basketball camp to 64 (lots of other camps take 100+ athletes)
- We pay our coaches more than other camps. We believe in finding great people and rewarding them for their hard work.
- We provide a premium camp experience. We spend dedicated time in the classroom teaching the sport and leadership and mindset skills, something very few other camps do. We train our staff and ensure every camp is led by a director who's an expert in their sport and a master teacher.
Is lunch provided?
No, lunch is not provided.
Athletes will need to bring a sack lunch to eat each day.
